MonacoPHil 2026 Philatelic Exhibitions
The Club de Monte-Carlo are honoured to announce a programme of two exhibitions at MonacoPhil 2026, showcasing world-class philatelic material, representing an exciting and diverse selection from our wonderful hobby.
This year, the two exhibitions will be held at one venue, providing a convenient and enthralling display of best-in-class philatelic material, alongside the renowned trade show co-organised with our colleagues at the Office d'Emissions de Timbres-Poste (OETP), at the One Monte-Carlo Conference and Exhibition Centre.
100 World Philatelic Rarities
During the redevelopment of Fontvieille and the Musée des Timbres, this year's 100 Rarities exhibition will be held at One Monte-Carlo Exhibition Centre. Following on from our 2024 pilot of the new format, we are housing the rarities in fantastic, custom-built A0 frames provided by our friends at Prestige Philately Club Prague. We are extremely thankful to 12 members of the Club who have "adopted" a frame each, and sponsored their construction, providing a fitting home for our Rarities exhibits long into the future.

Stamps and Postal History of Sub-Saharan Africa up to the First World War
This year, we have expanded the area dedicated to the broader exhibition, moving to the Salle des Arts to accommodate nearly three hundred frames of the finest stamps, postal history and historical documents of Sub-Saharan Africa from the pre-philatelic era through to the beginning of the First World War. This fantastic exhibition, the largest of its kind ever formed, will host some of the most well-researched, all-encompassing and award-winning studies of the various issuing authorities from the region, along with some of the outstanding rarities from African philately. A fantastic selection of material has been assembled thanks to the hard work of the exhibition commissioners: Jan Berg, Luis Frazao, Vincent Schouberechts and the late Paolo Bianchi.
The exhibition gives full attention to the geography of the continent, ranging from the Gold Coast, Gambia, and the Nigerias, through the Heart of Darkness and into Gabon, the Congo and Cameroon, right through Somaliland, Djibouti and Abyssinia to the Horn of Africa, and down through Angola, Mozambique and the KUT, to the Cape of Good Hope and extending to the Islands of Africa, with plenty of exhibits covering everywhere in between. We also have a comprehensive treatment of every major colonial power, including the British, Portuguese, French, German and Belgian administrations, along with some of the lesser-known colonial enterprises including the Danish and Dutch Gold Coast and the Norwegian Missionary Mail of Madagascar. Following on from 2024’s success, we are also including a short but no less powerful overview of the Banknotes of the French Colonies, showcasing exceptional designs from the same period and often the same printers, which we hope will intrigue and engage philatelists of the Sub-Sahara. Once more, we are especially grateful and thankful for the contribution of His Majesty King Charles III, who has provided a section covering the stamps of Northern and Southern Nigeria from the Royal Collection.
The exhibition will be accompanied, as always, by an exceptional catalogue showcasing the major highlights from each exhibitor and providing historical and philatelic context for the exhibits. Additionally, the catalogue shall open with a selection of longer-form articles, delving into overall philatelic developments of the Portuguese, British, Belgian and German philatelic administrations, authored by the exhibition commissioners Luis Frazao and Jan Berg, along with contributions from Vincent Schouberechts and Eric Coulton. We hope that this major exhibition of Sub-Saharan postal material will be of great interest to both newcomers and seasoned philatelists alike, and that those of you who are unable to visit the principality to see the frames in person will be able to enjoy them from home through the catalogue. The catalogue will also feature some brief video introductions, accessible via QR code, from our exhibitors, giving a lively overview of the highlight pieces from their exhibits. We hope these ‘video tours’ will give readers a novel insight into the exhibits before visiting the frames, or as accompaniment to the catalogue write-ups if they are unable to attend in person.
